What is a Resource

Describes a resource document.

What is it?

A resource document provides users information, such as a leaf collection schedule, or a downloadable form that they can print out on their own printer, such as an application or registration form. The resource document can optionally provide a link to an external source (which could, of course, also be another internal source). Note that if a resource document does contain an External Link (whether it is actually external or internal), when selecting the resource from the 'All City Resources' list, the user will be taken to the target link, not the resource, so any text in the Body Text field will not be seen.

Getting to it

Three ways are provided by Open-eGov to access a resource document:

  • Resources Portlet - to create a link here:
    1. Create and publish the resource  document
    2. In the root's or a department's navigation folder, go to the resources folder.
    3. Create and publish a link to the resource document
  • All City Resources list. All resources appear here automatically, grouped by the category selected in the resource document.
  • A-Z Directory - to create a link here:
    1. Create and publish the resource  document
    2. Go to your department's A-Z Entries folder
    3. Create and publish an A-Z Document that links to the resource document

Note that the resources portlet is context-sensitive; e.g., when at the site's root, it will list the resources listed in the site root's navigation/resources folder and when within a department folder, it will list the resources listed in that department's navigation/resources folder. Also, these navigation resource folders are sortable, allowing content managers to control the order of display in the resources portlet.

In addtion to these methodologies provided specifically to provide links to resource documents, links to them can also be included in any page or by using custom portlets.
